In preparation for the 2023 agricultural census, the North Sulawesi Province Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is holding training for complete enumeration officers for legal entity agricultural companies (UPB) and other agricultural businesses (UTL). This training was held for two days, starting from 28 May to 31 May 2023, at Luwansa Hotel & Convention Center Manado, Jl. Pomurow No. 68, Taas, Tikala District, Manado City, North Sulawesi.
The training participants came from various BPS districts in North Sulawesi Province, including BPS South Minahasa Regency. They consist of complete enumeration field officers from UPB and UTL, known as task forces and supervisors.
UPB refers to a form of agricultural business that operates permanently and continuously in the agricultural sector. This business was established with the aim of making a profit and has legal protection and permits from the competent authorities, at least at the district/city level. UPB covers various stages of agricultural cultivation activities, such as fertilization, maintenance and harvesting.
Meanwhile, UTL is an agricultural business that does not originate from individuals or agricultural companies. UTL is formed based on similarities in interests, environmental conditions, social/economic/resources, and familiarity. The aim is to increase the productivity of farming businesses and the welfare of its members through joint management of farming land in one particular stretch or area. Examples of UTL entities include Islamic boarding schools, correctional institutions, government/private offices, TNI complexes, and farmer groups that work together.
The importance of the agricultural census lies in its contribution to the national economy. Accurate and up-to-date data from the agricultural sector is needed as a reference for the government and stakeholders in planning and formulating policies for national development. By involving officers who are trained and understand various types of agricultural businesses, the 2023 agricultural census is expected to provide reliable and comprehensive data for all parties involved.
